One of the clear and vivid memories of my Knights of Columbus initiation was that I received a rosary and went home with it in my pocket. This is still the practice today when men join the Knights of Columbus. Brothers, are we "still men of prayer"? Or, has the rosary you received when you became a K.C. member been on a "L-O-N-G" vacation?
The Knights of Columbus believe in family prayer and promotes it among its members. May I remind you, brothers, that the man is the spiritual head of the household. Therefore, the father/husband should be the leader of prayer in his home; he should be the #1 example of prayer to his wife and children.
Spiritual Development Commission is providing a valuable opportunity for all of us to be men of prayer. On Monday, August 19th, Fr. Charles Sellars, O.M.I. will be speaking here at our church. His topic will be "The Many Gifts of Mary: How Our Lady Leads Us To Her Son, Jesus". Fr. Sellars has a Ph.D. in Family Counseling and writes for the Medjugore Star. He was vicar of St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans until recently. He is now pastor of St. Mark the Evangelist Parish in Silsbee, Texas.
On this evening (August 19th) rosary begins at 6:30pm in the Worship Space. Music is at 7, Welcome at 7:15 and Fr. Sellars' talk at 7:30. It will last about an hour; a reception will follow.
It is my hope and prayer that our council will participate in
this 100%. Bring your families. It is an opportunity to pray together,
to learn more about Mary, our Spiritual Mother and how love and
devotion to her leads to a stronger faith in Jesus, our Saviour.
